Nominee - holder to restricted rights of Personalised Number Plates held on retention.

The Nominee listed on a V778 retention document or V750 certificate of entitlement only has the right to have the personalised registration number printed on that certificate assigned to a vehicle registered in his or her name.
The Nominee cannot change the name listed in the Nominee section of the V778 or V750, nor can he/she renew the V778 or V750 every year.Only the Grantee can do these things.
A Nominee can be specified at the time the registration number is retained free of charge, adding one later or changing Nominee costs 25 pounds.
Anyone who has bought personalised number plates already on retention will need the assistance of the Grantee to change a nominee and/or assign the registration number.
Anyone who has bought private number plates on a certifivate of entitlement will need the assistance of the Purchaser to change a nominee and/or assign the registration number.
Anyone buying private number plates which are still on a car should have the registered keeper apply to retain the registration number using form V317, making the buyer the Grantee. Once the application has been processed and the V778 has been printed it, it will be posted to the Grantee, not the applicant.
Anyone who has bought a personalised registration number and is only listed as a nominee must ensure the registration is assigned to a vehicle registered in his or her name before the expiry date printed on the V778 or V750.
Nominees do not receive reminders that the certificate is about to expire and the DVLA will only post a new certificate to the address listed on the V750 or V778.

If you have any questions regarding any of the above , please contact us by email or telephone.
