Police in Yorkshire are celebrating seizing their 500th car in 2008 by the use of ANPRS - Automatic Number Plates Recognition System .
A small team of eight officers have been enjoying success detecting cars which are not insured or are being used in the process of other crimes.
272 have been arrested,734 court summons issued and over £750,00 of stolen property, cash and drugs recovered.
It is interesting that 208 of 272 arrested were from outside the county and were obviously travelling criminals.
Police are determined to deny travelling criminals the use of the road network in their illegal activities and with ANPRS they have the tools to accomplish this..
