Transfer fees payable when transferring private plates or cherished numbers

Whenever a registration number is moved in the United Kingdom there is a fee to pay to DVLA for their administration. If you are transferring private plates between two vehicles the fee is 80 pounds, this applies to N.Ireland as well so transferring private plates from a N.Ireland vehicle to a British vehicle and vice-versa costs 80 pounds.
If the registration number is to be retained the fee is 105 pounds, although this means that when the registration is subsequently assigned to a vehicle, there is nothing to pay.
Changing a nominee on a V778 costs 25 pounds and can now be done at the same time as assigning the private plates to a vehicle.
When transferring cherished numbers held on a V750, V778 or V750 N.I. the fees can vary. When using a V778 or V750 and the vehicle is British there is nor problem, however if the vehicle is in N.ireland, double fees can apply. The same is true of a registration held on a V750 N.I. when transferred on a British vehicle.
There has not been an increase in the fees payable when assigning, retaining or transferring cherished numbers for many years, do not be surprised if they are increased presently.

I have bought three (soon to be four) personal number plates from Northumbrian numbers and have found the service to be nothing short of exemplary. I would have no hesitation in recommending them to anyone. Very nice people to deal with.
